Matthew Holloway started performing during his first years in New York City under the direction of Denise Maynard and pianist Jerry Jean. He performed in a number of shows at Don’t Tell Mama before taking a hiatus to become a social worker.
Inspired by watching Solid Gold and listening to FM radio while riding around with his mother as a child, singing became his first love. He began to collect songs and lyrics and the obsession continues today.
Favorite artists and performers include Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli, Bette Midler, Justin Vivian Bond and Kenny Mellman, Bridget Everett, Eartha Kitt, Laura Nyro, Randy Newman, Barbra Streisand, Sandra Berhardt, Harry Nilsson and Joni Mitchell.
Infatuated with stand up comedy, Matthew’s favorite comics include Louis CK, Tig Notaro, Joan Rivers, Jessica Kirson and Eddie Pepitone.
A mix of stand up and eclectic song, Matthew’s shows are witty, raunchy, bizarre and tangential. He aims to make people laugh, but not all the material is comedic. His shows incorporate both funny and dramatic songs.
Matthew lives with his partner and their dog Oreo in Harlem surrounded by many vases and other nice things.
